[Куплет 1]За круглый камень закатилось вяло Cолнце, в лесу потухли краски, стало очень мрачно.
Сквозь сеть листвы крадётся стая волчья, шестнадцать глаз следят за юной ланью.
И тишина - ни шороха, ни звука, вечерний лес застыл, как на картинке.
Вожак был первым, он прыжком огромным почти настиг испуганное тело.
Но лишь почти - ведь лань проворней волка,
и девять тёмных пятен замелькали среди берёз, среди печальных ёлок,
и тридцать две с когтями землю рвали.
Добыча же неслась вперёд быстрее ветра, ломая грудью молодой беспомощные ветки.
Отстали тени. Юности, наверное, сказать спасибо стоит за освобожденье.
[Припев 2 раза]
И лес вдруг зашептал, загадочно и странно:
"Свои законы здесь, всё в жизни неслучайно,
кто прав, кто виноват - значения не имеет,
Хитрее будь, сильней и двигайся быстрее".

Открыт совет. Вожак в кругу собратьев в защиту слово молвил:
"Волчья стая! Я оплошал, быть может, слишком старым уж стал совсем,
но я клянусь вам, братья, что без труда сверну любому шею
и доказать смогу, на что способны зубы у старика. Не верите? Проверьте!"
И заблестели жемчугом лазурным его клыки, а уши уловили ответный рык,
глаза в глаза столкнувшись с таким как он, но только помоложе.
Он принял вызов. Волки разомкнулись и два могучих зверя крепко зацепились в один клубок,
роняя кровь на листья и на траву, когтями рвали мясо.
Рывок, удар, ещё... и всё погасло.

И снова пронеслись слова, как заклинанье:
"Свои законы здесь, всё в жизни неслучайно,

Всё тот же лес, всё та же стая волчья за вожаком ступает сквозь потёмки.
След в след идут, загривок за загривком. Пасут лосиху с маленьким лосёнком.
Четырнадцать очей горят огнём во мраке и двадцать восемь лап готовы рвать добычу.
Прыжок, как перелёт, достойный восхищенья, но что-то вдруг не так...
Ба-бах! и тело наземь упало вожака, а лоси в роще скрылись.
Ещё один удар кору с берёзы вырвал, запахло порохом и шесть теней исчезли
Среди густых ветвей, а на поляну вышел охотник молодой,
ружьё в руке сжимая, коснулся мертвеца и тихо так промолвил:
"Прости, но я сильней, детей своих голодных обязан прокормить.
От них тебе спасибо.

И лес опять шептал, загадочно и странно:
