Я едва вкусил его.
Не успел свою жажду я утолить,
Как иссякло оно.
2. Я вложил всё, что имел,
В то, что вечным я считал,
Но желанное тут же из рук ушло,
И опять жаждать я стал.
3. Чтоб на пик горы взойти,
Много лет потратил я,
Но, взглянув вокруг с вершины,
увидел вдруг:
Суета, всё суета.
4. Мудрость мира я познал,
В идеалы верил я,
Но не греет сердце
вся философия,
И внутри опять пустота.
5. Годы шли, и понял я,
Что весь мир — лишь суета.
Не могу притворяться, что счастлив я,
Как мне действительность нужна!
6. Я в ночной кромешной тьме,
На колени пав, кричал.
Он пришёл, и обратил Он смерть
в жизнь вечную,
Жизни смысл мне даровал.
7. В Его имени теперь
Я живую воду пью;
Призываю я: «Господь Иисус!» —
и поток течёт.
Это имя я люблю.
8. Так Он Сам устроил всё —
Дал мне лучшее в конце.
Я нашёл вино, что никогда не кончится;
Он — то вино, что слаще всех.

I barely tasted it.
I did not have time to quench my thirst,
How exhausted it is.
2. I put everything I had,
In what I considered eternal,
But the desired immediately out of hand,
And again I began to thirst.
3. To the peak of the mountain to ascend,
I spent many years,
But, having looked around from the top,
saw suddenly:
Vanity, all the fuss.
4. I learned the wisdom of the world,
In ideals I believed,
