Вокруг этого альбома не было никакой шумихи, как вокруг прошлого, когда все ждали чего-то "эдакого", а получили нечто странное, невнятное и разочаровавшее большинство слушателей. Потому в этот раз никто, собственно, и не ожидал, что альбом получится хорошим. Давно минули времена Яри, отгремели первые опусы с участием Линдроса... А потом был провал, контраст с которым и сыграл на руку "One Man Army", за счёт чего альбом и смотрится более удачным в сравнении с предыдущим.Что ж, творческий потенциал коллектива можно считать практически исчерпанным. Не до конца, идеи ещё есть - но они уже не совсем энсиферумские. И что удивительно, именно этим альбом и цепляет. Он не такой атмосферный, не такой крышесносный или ураганный... Не такой "лиричный и бессмысленный" как предыдущий, но с несколькими своими фишками. Все эти уклоны в кантри ("Neito Pohjolan"), чуть ли не ирландский фолк ("Rawhide") и нечто очень стёбное ("Bonus Song", просто вслушайтесь в этот текст) - всё это хорошо, но это не Ensiferum. Этих "фишек" хватило, чтобы несколько раз удивлённо улыбнуться, но этого явно недостаточно, чтобы днями напролёт сидеть и вслушиваться-вслушиваться-вслушиваться с тучной миной у окна и мыслями а-ля "Петри-Петри, что же ты хотел нам всем сказать, сукин ты сын...". Основная же часть альбома продолжается в духе прошлых опусов - добротный материал без изысков, который можно считать уже "стандартным" или даже "проходным" для Ensiferum по одной простой причине: этим уже никого не удивить и не заставить внимательно вслушиваться, как то было раньше. Альбом сам по себе лёгкий для восприятия да и вникать тут особо не во что.
Несколько знаковых композиций на альбоме всё-таки хочется отметить. "Axe Of Judgement" - быстрое и бодрое начало альбома, которого так не хватало прошлой пластинке. "Heathen Horde" - неторопливая, но приятная композиция, в частности за счёт запоминающихся гармонических ходов. Отмечу также, что используемый почти повсеместно на альбоме хор здесь звучит уместно в отличие от некоторых других треков. "Warrior Without A War" - среднетемповая и качёвая вещь в духе "Wanderer" с "Victory Songs". "Two Of Spades" - забойный боевичок с фанковой частью посередине. Никогда не слышали Jamiroquai на финском?.. Милости просим! "Neito Pohjolan" - приятный кантри, напоминающий середину "Stone Cold Metal", которая в своё время радовала нас на "From Afar". Длинные "Cry for the Earth Bounds" и "Descendants, Defiance, Domintion" не оставили даже тени эмоций - к сожалению, печальный опыт показывает, что столь длительные композиции с намёком на прогрессивность группе никогда особо не удавались, а лишь навевали тоску и вгоняли в сон.
Напоследок хочется отметить приятный в целом звук альбома, особенно ласкающие уши ударные. А подводя итог, можно смело сказать, что разочарованием года альбом не стал, а скорее даже удивил тем, что не обернулся полнейшей катастрофой. И всё-таки момент для группы упущен, что будет дальше - неизвестно. Быть может, Ensiferum развалятся, а может, продолжат гнуть свою палку, периодически обрастая новыми стилевыми листиками и осторожно продолжая свои эксперименты. Время покажет.

There was no hype around this album, like around the past, when everyone was expecting something "such", but got something strange, indistinct and disappointing for the majority of listeners. That is why this time no one actually expected that the album would turn out good. Long gone are the days of Jari, the first opuses with the participation of Lindros died down ... And then there was a failure, the contrast with which played into the hands of "One Man Army", due to which the album looks more successful in comparison with the previous one.Well, the creative potential of the team can be considered practically exhausted. Not completely, there are still ideas - but they are no longer entirely ensiferum. And surprisingly, this is exactly what the album touches. It is not as atmospheric, not as mind-blowing or hurricane ... Not as "lyrical and meaningless" as the previous one, but with a few of its own chips. All these country bent overs ("Neito Pohjolan"), almost Irish folk ("Rawhide") and something very funky ("Bonus Song", just listen to this lyrics) are all good, but this is not Ensiferum. These "tricks" were enough to smile with surprise several times, but this is clearly not enough to sit and listen-listen-listen with a fat face at the window for days on end and thoughts a la "Petri-Petri, what did you want to tell us all, you son of a bitch ... ". The main part of the album continues in the spirit of past opuses - solid material without frills, which can be considered already "standard" or even "passable" for Ensiferum for one simple reason: this does not surprise anyone and does not force anyone to listen carefully, as it was before. The album itself is easy to read and there is not much to delve into here.
I still want to note several iconic compositions on the album. "Ax Of Judgment" is a quick and cheerful start to the album, which was so lacking on the previous disc. "Heathen Horde" is a leisurely but pleasant composition, in particular due to the memorable harmonic moves. I also note that the chorus used almost everywhere on the album sounds appropriate here, unlike some other tracks. "Warrior Without A War" is a mid-tempo and swinging song in the spirit of "Wanderer" from "Victory Songs". "Two Of Spades" is an action movie with a funky part in the middle. Never heard of Jamiroquai in Finnish? .. You're welcome! "Neito Pohjolan" is a pleasant country, reminiscent of the middle of "Stone Cold Metal", which at one time delighted us on "From Afar". The long "Cry for the Earth Bounds" and "Descendants, Defiance, Domintion" did not leave even a shadow of emotion - unfortunately, sad experience shows that such long compositions with a hint of progressiveness never really worked out for the group, but only caused melancholy and drove into sleep.
Finally, I would like to note the overall pleasant sound of the album, especially the drums caressing the ears. Summing up, we can safely say that the album did not become a disappointment of the year, but rather even surprised that it did not turn into a complete disaster. And yet the moment was missed for the group, what will happen next is unknown. Perhaps Ensiferum will fall apart, or maybe they will continue to bend their stick, periodically overgrowing with new style leaves and carefully continuing their experiments. Time will tell.
