В жанре сюиты отразилось оркестровое и симфоническое мастерство Грига. Владение красками струнного оркестра сказалось в сюите "Из времен Хольберга" (1884-1885) - стилизации старинной сюиты эпохи И.С. Баха и Г.Ф. Генделя. Она была приурочена к 200-летию датского писателя-просветителя Людвига Хольберга. В сюите использованы не только названия частей, характерные для музыки эпохи XVIII века - Прелюдия, Сарабанда, Гавот, Ария и Ригодон, - но и соответствующие средства музыкальной выразительности: формы частей, гармонические особенности, приёмы оркестровки, мелодические украшения. Первоначально сюита предназначалась для исполнения на фортепиано, и только спустя год Григ оркестровал её.

The genre of suite reflected the orchestral and symphonic mastery of Grieg. Possession of the colors of the string orchestra was reflected in the suite "From the time of Holberg" (1884-1885) - a stylization of an ancient suite of the era of I.S. Bach and G.F. Handel. It was dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Danish writer-educator Ludwig Holberg. The suite uses not only the names of the parts characteristic of the music of the 18th century - Prelude, Saraband, Gavotte, Aria and Rigodon - but also the corresponding means of musical expression: the forms of the parts, harmonic features, orchestration techniques, melodic decorations. The suite was originally intended to be played on the piano, and only a year later Grieg orchestrated it.
