Начало фантазии — тихие протяженные аккорды духовых, колышущееся движение струнных divisi — это картина спокойного, но полного скрытой могучей силы моря. У валторн появляется мелодия, широко раскинувшаяся, с фанфарными оборотами — тема корабля, устремленного к своей цели. Но вот вступают другие фанфары, призывные, заклинающие. Все более взволнованным, возбужденным становится движение, приводящее к торжественному хоралу — образу могущественного волшебника. Следующий эпизод — буря. В мощном звучании tutti выделяются взлетающие ходы струнных, свистящие хроматические пассажи флейт, грохот ударных инструментов. Постепенно буря утихает, слышится лишь затихающий, как бы вдали, протяженный тон у валторны. И виолончели, почти в одиночестве (их сопровождает только двухголосие фаготов), запевают нежную выразительную тему любви Миранды и Фернандо. Дальше два эпизода рисуют Ариэля — легкой, мелькающей в разных регистрах, словно ускользающей мелодией, и Калибана, страшного сына темных сил, — резкими, угловатыми ходами с характерными скачками на большую септиму, акцентированием каждого звука, преобладанием фортиссимо. Но возвращается тема любви, более насыщенная, чем в первом своем появлении, в звучании всей струнной группы. Ее течение приводит к апофеозу, торжеству всепоглощающего чувства. Возвращаются фанфары заклинания Просперо и его хорал. Но теперь его музыка постепенно утихает, исчезает, уступая место картине спокойного, безмятежного моря.

The beginning of the fantasy - quiet extended chords of winds, the swaying movement of the strings divisi - is a picture of a calm, but full of hidden mighty power of the sea. The French horns have a melody that spreads widely, with fanfare turns - the theme of a ship striving towards its goal. But then other fanfares come in, inviting, conjuring. The movement becomes more and more agitated, excited, leading to a solemn chant - the image of a powerful wizard. The next episode is the storm. In the powerful sound of tutti, the soaring strokes of strings, the whistling chromatic passages of flutes, and the roar of percussion instruments stand out. Gradually the storm subsides, only a fading, as if in the distance, extended tone at the French horn is heard. And the cellos, almost alone (they are accompanied only by the two-part bassoons), sing the tender expressive theme of Miranda and Fernando's love. Further two episodes depict Ariel - a light, flickering in different registers, like an elusive melody, and Caliban, the terrible son of dark forces - with sharp, angular moves with characteristic leaps to the big seventh, accentuation of each sound, the predominance of fortissimo. But the theme of love returns, more saturated than in its first appearance, in the sound of the entire string group. Its course leads to an apotheosis, the triumph of an all-consuming feeling. The fanfare of Prospero's spell and his chant return. But now his music gradually dies down, disappears, giving way to a picture of a calm, serene sea.
